Our Head Shot Guide

Helping you relax when being photographed can significantly improve the quality of the photos and make the experience more enjoyable for everyone involved. Here are some strategies we use to help you feel at ease during a photo session:

1. Build Rapport:

We love to engage in conversation:

We start with casual, friendly conversation to build rapport and make you feel comfortable. We will ask about your interests or how your day is going. We will help ease your nerves.

2. We provide clear guidance:

We will explain the process and clearly explain what to expect during the session, including how long it will take and what kinds of poses you’ll be doing.
We will give gentle direction and provide gentle, easy-to-follow instructions on posing. We try to avoid technical jargon and we are very patient.

3. We Will Create a Comfortable Environment:

We will select a location where you feel comfortable and at ease and ensure the environment is relaxed, with comfortable seating, appropriate lighting, and a pleasant temperature.

4. We Encourage Natural Poses:

We want you to use natural, relaxed poses rather than stiff, formal ones.
We like to capture candid moments: Take candid shots when you are not focusing directly on the camera.  This can capture your natural expressions and ease.

5. We like to laugh and enjoy what we do:

Lighten the Mood: We use humour to lighten the mood and make the experience fun. A good laugh can    help you relax and forget about the camera.
Offer Praise: We only give positive feedback and praise to boost your confidence. Compliments can go a long way in helping you feel good about yourself.

6. Allow Time for Adjustment:

We Don’t Rush: You have time to get comfortable with the camera and the setting.

Take Breaks: We take plenty of short breaks if needed, especially during longer sessions. This can help you regroup and relax.

7. Show Examples:

Share Previous Work: Showing examples of previous work can give you a better idea of what to expect and reduce anxiety about the outcome.
Instant Previews: We love to show you a few shots on the camera’s screen during the session. Seeing good results in real-time can boost your confidence and help you relax.

8. Incorporate Familiar Elements:

Props and Accessories: You are encouraged to bring or use familiar props, such as personal items or accessories. Something that is unique to you and shows your personality!
Companions: Please do bring a friend, family member, or pet. Whatever helps you be you.

9. Mind Body Language:

Relaxed Posture: Demonstrate relaxed body language yourself. Our calm demeanour helps set the tone and make you feel more relaxed.
Encourage Movement: Encourage natural movements, such as shifting weight, adjusting poses, or interacting with the environment.

10. Prepare and Plan:

Pre-Session Consultation: We love to have a pre-session consultation to discuss your preferences, concerns, and any specific ideas you have.

Personal Comfort: You are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that they feel good in, which can help them feel more relaxed and confident.

By applying these strategies, photographers can create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, making it easier for subjects to feel at ease and resulting in more natural and engaging photographs.
