Mindset, attitude and approach

Probably the most important place to start, to assess the mindset, attitude and approach you and your people have to the concept of diversity. Towards men, women, gay, transgender, people of colour, country of origin. These can be sub conscious bias or more obvious, it is important we have these conversations at the outset.

Positions of authority

Who are the people in positions of authoroty and what sort of leader are they? How skilled are they at interacting with a diverse workforce? Is additional training and upskilling needed?

Being challenged

How do you and your team cope with and deal with being challenged? Some people can be very direct, quite confrontational, some people do not want to speak up, both are diffeent ways of being challenged, how will your people manage each situation?

People skills

Know, like and trust is only built through open and honest communication, you need to get to know the people in your team. Are you able to be relateable to different people? Can you be a good listener and empathic?

Retention

Your people will stay if they feel valued, you will need to discover their motivations, goals and ambitions in order to keep them feeling fulfilled and happy at work. Your people are also your best possible recruiters for you.
